Simons Wins No. 300 after 8-2 Victory over Mountaineers

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN– In a historic game against the Berea Mountaineers on Friday, April 28, 2023, the Covenant Scots secured a decisive 8-2 victory, marking a momentous milestone for head coach Doug Simons.

With this win, Simons achieved his 300th career win, cementing his legacy as the only head coach in the modern era of the Scots' baseball program.

Simons has been a key figure in the program's growth, serving as head coach for the past 17 years.

John Hirte, the Director of Athletics at Covenant College adds, "Congrats to Coach Simons on his 300th win! It's been a privilege and a blessing to witness Doug's uncompromising commitment to using baseball to help develop young men for the Lord's kingdom. In addition to his pursuit of his players, Coach has also been an example and a mentor to the younger staff in the athletic department. Winning this many games is also a testament to his knowledge of baseball and ability to field competitive teams. We are thrilled to be able to celebrate this accomplishment with him!"

Former player and currently one of the assistant coaches on staff, Josh Harvey, echoed these sentiments, highlighting Simons' heart for Christ, baseball, and the college. "Coach Simons is a servant leader that loves and cares for his players both on and off the field," said Harvey. "Congrats on 300, Coach!"

In the defeat over Berea, Harrison Adelgren, Josh McCaskill, and Benjamin Johnson all went 2-4 on the night. Both Chris Savage and McCaskill tallied a homerun against the Mountaineers, while Kenny Mills racked up 3 RBIs.
