FEBRUARY 11– Covenant Women's Basketball secured a conference win over the Wesleyan Wolves this weekend following two tough CCS losses. Though the Scots went 1-2 on the week, the Scots never backed down and saw several players hit career milestones.
Â
In the mid-week matchup against the Maryville Scots, Covenant came out with a bang. Within just the first three minutes, Covenant went on an 11-0 run. Though now holding an 11-point lead, Maryville would climb back in to end the quarter just one point behind the visiting Scots.
Â
The second quarter remained close, but Maryville would slowly build up their lead while simultaneously holding Covenant to scoring just five points. Maryville would end the half seven points ahead of the Covenant Scots.
Â
Coming from halftime, Maryville started off the third quarter with sharp shooting. Nearly doubling their shooting percentage from the previous quarters, Maryville's lead began to rapidly increase.Â
Â
Out-shooting Covenant 24-11 in the third period, Maryville was heading into the fourth quarter with a comfortable 20-point lead. However, the Covenant Scots still had some fire left in them, and held Maryville to just four points in the final ten minutes.Â
Â
The defensive stops were not enough, and Covenant fell 59-48.Â
Â
It was
Karis McIntosh and
Cosette Kirsch who led the way. McIntosh recording 14 points, all of which were threes except one, notching her 50th three-pointer of the season.Â
Â
Additionally,
Cosette Kirsch ended with 13 points on the night, surpassing her 1000th career point, an impressive milestone.Â
Â
As the milestones continue,
Ruthie Moore pulled down her 700th career rebound as she and
Megan Rouse led the Scots on the boards, both contributing 8 rebounds in the contest.Â
Â
On Friday, the Scots traveled to Piedmont in order to take on the Lions for the second time this season. In the 71-63 loss,
Karis McIntosh drained 19 points, including five three-pointers. Only needing four threes to achieve 100 career three-pointers, McIntosh surpassed this goal and ended the night as the Scots' top scorer.
Â
Though the Scots could not overcome the Lions, Covenant had four players score double digits on the night.
Ruthie Moore contributed 13 points,
Cosette Kirsch added 12 points, and forward
Megan Rouse put up 10 of her own.Â
Â
Megan Rouse had quite the night as she was just a couple rebounds shy of a double-double, leading the team in rebounds for the second game in a row. Rouse also racked up four blocks.
Â
In the win over Wesleyan,
Megan Rouse recorded two more blocks, hitting her 50th block of the season, an outstanding feat. Rouse was the only player in the conference to surpass 50 blocks this season, leading the CCS in that category.
Â
Breezy Savage led the way in the 86-29 victory over the Wolves with 13 points, almost tying her career-high. Additionally, forwards
Abby Witt and
Megan Rouse both contributed 10 points a-piece in the win.
