Two Late Goals From Tisdale Secures CCS Championship

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -  On a picture-perfect day at Scotland Yard, Covenant hosted Belhaven in the CCS Championship Match. The Scots avenged their loss to the Blazers earlier this year with a 2-0 win to clinch the CCS Championship regular season and tournament sweep.

Final: Covenant 2, Belhaven 0
Records: Covenant (10-5-3, 4-2-0 CCS), Belhaven (9-4-5, 3-1-2 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the eighth minute, Kade Theunissen cut inside and had a curling shot well saved by the Belhaven goalkeeper Max Rudolph.
  • In the 29th minute, Theunissen had another great opportunity on goal, but Ruldolph was true to his shot again.
  • Whitt Tisdale had Covenant's final attempt of the half in the 33rd minute that was saved at the bottom left of the goal.
  • Belhaven couldn't get past the Covenant backline as it was held to zero first half shots.
  • The match was physical with Covenant having nine fouls and Belhaven committing six fouls by halftime.
  • The Blazers had their first shot in the 56th minute, but J.T. Gard was there for Covenant to make the stop.
  • Tisdale had a one-on-one look with Rudolph in the 70th minute, but his shot was placed right at Rudolph who made another save.
  • After a well-placed cross from the right wing by Blake Myers, Tisdale headed home Covenant's first goal in the 81st minute.
  • Less than two minutes later, Tisdale made it 2-0 with a great strike after a through ball from Luke Laughlin played him in on goal.
  • Belhaven had two corner kicks in the final few minutes of the match, but couldn't muster a shot off either opportunity.
