Covenant Sweeps Belhaven and Wesleyan

MACON, Ga. - Covenant continued its conference slate with a tri-match at Wesleyan on Saturday. The Scots took care of business, sweeping both Belhaven and Wesleyan to stay undefeated in league play. 

Game 1 Final: Covenant 3, Belhaven 0
Records: Covenant (17-1, 7-0 CCS), Belhaven (5-16, 3-5 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Three attack errors hurt the Scots early on as they trailed 6-4.
  • An 8-2 run for Covenant that included service aces from Sarah Jennings and Rachel Bartlett moved Covenant ahead 12-9.
  • Anissa Snyder had a strong service rotation, as Covenant scored eight straight points to take a 20-11 lead. 
  • Bartlett assisted a Kyla Bailey kill to give Covenant the set at 25-17.
  • The Scots and the Blazers traded point-for-point in the early stages of set two as they were tied at eight. 
  • Emma Kalbfleisch had a kill and Kelsey Carman had two kills as Covenant went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-8 lead. 
  • Hannah Haerer had three kills in the next three points for the Scots as they led 19-9.
  • Kalbfleisch ended the set with two more kills to her stat line as Covenant took set two 25-16.
  • In set three Covenant led 7-4 behind a service ace from Cali Sandhoff. 
  • A 4-0 run behind kills from Bartlett, Bailey and Kalbfleisch extended Covenant's lead to 15-7. 
  • Haerer ended the set at 25-14 and the match with a kill assisted by Bartlett. 

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 4-2 all time against Belhaven. 
  • Kalbfleisch led Covenant with a game-high 12 kills. 
  • Bartlett tallied 31 assists, which was also a game high. 
  • Jennings had nine digs while Carman had eight. 

Game 2 Final: Covenant 3, Wesleyan 0
Records: Covenant (18-1, 8-0 CCS), Wesleyan (2-14, 0-9 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Scots raced out to a 6-0 lead behind a strong first service rotation from Sandhoff.
  • Three consecutive kills from Bailey assisted by Bartlett pushed the Scots ahead 13-3.
  • Wesleyan fought back a little, but Covenant still cruised to a 25-18 opening set victory. 
  • Kalbfleisch had three kills in the first five points of the second set as Covenant led 5-0.
  • A 8-0 run midway through the set put the Scots in front 20-5. 
  • A 4-0 run capped off by a bad set from Wesleyan gave Covenant a 25-9 set two win. 
  • Amber Snook came in for the third set and delivered with a 9-0 scoring run in her service rotation as Covenant jumped out to a 12-3 lead.
  • Reagan Keener recorded a kill assisted by Snook with Covenant on top 18-7. 
  • With Kalbfliesch serving, the Scots ended the day on a 7-0 run to win the set 25-8 and the match. 

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 18-0 all-time against Wesleyan. 
  • Kalbfleisch had 11 kills which was a game high. 
  • Bartlett dished out 25 assists and also had six digs.
  • Other notable stats include Carman with nine digs and Sandhoff with three service aces.
  • Covenant has won 13 games in a row.

UP NEXT: The Scots are back in Barnes on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. against Berea as they begin the second-half of their conference schedule.
