Scots Tie Lions On The Road

DEMOREST, Ga. - Covenant visited Piedmont to attempt to get its third win of the season and move up in the conference standings. The teams played each other pretty evenly, resulting in a 0-0 draw.

Final: Covenant 0, Piedmont 0
Records: Covenant (2-4-5, 1-1-2 CCS), Piedmont (5-5-5, 3-1-2 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Scots aggressive offensive approach was evident in the early going, as the Scots outshot Piedmont 6-0 in the first 15 minutes of action, but only one of them required a save by Lions keeper Haylee Dornan.
  • Scots junior forward Rachel Wall had a chance in the 23rd minute on a header shot attempt, but Dornan was again there to deny it.
  • Piedmont had their first shot in the 25th minute, but Scots senior keeper Lucy Sandhoff saved Hazel Kirk's attempt from going in the net.
  • Piedmont started to put more pressure on the Scots late in the first half, outshooting the Scots 6-1 in the final 18 minutes. Sandhoff had to stop three of them.
  • The two CCS rivals split five shots right out of the second-half gate, but both keepers were up to the task, with Covenant's Sandhoff picking up two saves and Piedmont's Dornan adding one of her own.
  • Piedmont got another opportunity in the 61st minute, but Sandhoff once again came up huge for the Scots with her seventh save of the afternoon.
  • The Scots got their first opportunity in the second half since the early portion in the 74th minute, with sophomore Hannah Ford's shot drifting wide.
  • Piedmont's last-gasp attempts on net came up empty in the final five minutes, with Sandhoff picking up two more saves to bring her total to nine for the evening and a hard-earned clean sheet.
