LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Women's Soccer, the No. 3 seed in the CCS Tournament, began its postseason journey with a visit from No. 6 seed Huntingdon. AS they did just a week ago in their regular season finale, the Scots took care of the Hawks to clinch a spot in the CCS Semifinals.
Final: Covenant 4, Huntingdon 0
Records: Covenant (7-4-5, 5-1-2 CCS), Huntingdon (5-10-1, 3-5-0 CCS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the 19th minute, Rachel Wall gave Covenant the lead with a goal after dribbling past two Huntingdon defenders.
- Just a few minutes later, the Scots doubled their lead on a Lila Wiley breakaway goal that was assisted by Leah Marr.
- The Scots continued to put pressure on Huntingdon as Adelle Stumbo had two shots saved in the 41st minute, one by the goalie and another by a Huntingdon defender.
- At the intermission, Covenant had 11 shots while Huntingdon had two.
- It was similar play for the Scots as the second half began with shots from Marr, Wiley, and Emma Riggs in the first 15 minutes.
- Huntingdon's only shot of the second half was off target in the 61st minute.
- Tyneisha Herring scored Covenant's third goal in the 68th minute with the help of two great passes by Aiden Strawbridge and Abby White after a dropped ball from the referee.
- Minutes before the final whistle, Blythe Jelley found Marr for a headed goal to give the Scots a 4-0 lead.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 17-1-2 all-time against Huntingdon.
- The Scots outshot the Hawks 25-3
- Corner kicks were in favor of Covenant, 4-2.
- The Scots have kept six clean sheets in a row.
- Covenant has won five consecutive games.
