The Covenant Women's Soccer team hosted Berry on Tuesday, September 13
th, and Washington and Lee this past Saturday, September 17th.
Though the women were previously ranked by the NCCAA, they could not get ahead on either team. Both Berry and Washington and Lee dominated offensively. While the Scots managed to hold them off for a bit, Covenant's defense could not hold the opposing offense off forever. The Vikings scored two goals on the Scots, while the Generals were able to land three goals to top off a 3-1 defeat over Covenant.
The Vikings out-shot Covenant 14-3, with eight of those shots being on goal.
Lucy Sandhoff was able to make six saves, however, two goals were allowed for the Vikings. The Vikings made three saves in the shut-out, two by goalie Julia Massa. Both goals were made in the second half of the game; the Scots were able to recover throughout the entire first half, but could not keep up as the game progressed.
Washington and Lee also significantly out-shot the Scots, putting up 23 shots compared to the two that Covenant was able to get past the General's defense. Luckily for the Scots, only five of which were on target.
Lucy Sandhoff made two saves, but three tricky shots found the back of the net.
It was not until Washington and Lee had gotten all three of their goals that Covenant was able to get on the scoreboard. With less than 10 minutes remaining,
Lydia Osborne set up
Annabella Goehring perfectly for a shot. Osborne's pass put Goehring in the sweet spot to score, as no defenders were near.
Annabella Goehring seized the opportunity and sneaked one past the goalie to give the Scots a goal. The final score was 3-1.
Looking Ahead
The Scots are back at home next Wednesday (Sept. 21) where they will open up conference play at 4:30 PM against the Piedmont Lions.
