Baseball Topped by Berry, 6-4

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Covenant baseball team recorded 10 hits on the day, but was ultimately outscored 6-4 by the visiting Berry Vikings.

The Scots fall to 13-16 overall (5-7 USAS), while Berry improves to 23-11.

After the Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the second, the Scots responded with two hits and three runs in the bottom of the fourth. RBI-singles from Josh Harvey and Andrew Brock helped Covenant take a 3-2 lead.

Berry would then take back the lead by tacking on four runs over the course of the fifth and sixth innings, putting them ahead by three (6-3).

An RBI-single from Wesley Wade in the fifth tied it up at three runs apiece (3-3). The visiting Vikings then connected on four hits in the sixth, bringing three across the plate and making it 6-3.

Covenant added one more to the board in their half of the sixth, cutting the deficit to two. After three consecutive singles, Joseph Ridenour worked a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-4.

The Scots would place runners in scoring position in the next two innings and only allow the Vikings one hit for the remainder of the contest. But Berry's defense was ultimately able to shut down the threats, sealing their two-run victory (6-4).

Harvey finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Brock went 1-of-4 with two RBIs. Tyler Cox was also 3-for-4.

Aaron Northcutt got the start on the mound for Covenant, throwing three innings with two strikeouts and one earned run. Scotty Smith (0-1) earned the loss, allowing three earned runs in one inning pitched.

Wade went 2-of-5 with a pair of RBIs, while Jack Poist was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Mark Swett (1-1) picked up the win with one strikeout, zero walks, and zero earned runs in two innings pitched. Andrew Norred earned the save.
