ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Covenant women's tennis team opened its Florida trip on Saturday night with a 6-3 victory over Ohio Wesleyan at the USTA National Campus.
It was the first of six matches in Florida over the next five days for Covenant (4-4). It was the first all-time meeting between the programs.
The Scots grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Lauren Carr and
Nicole Restrepo combined for a narrow, 8-6, win over OWU's Shanzay Ali and Ruthie Silberman at the No. 2 flight while
Jess Brown and
Dani Rappuhn were 8-1 winners over Kaitlyn Quinn and Emma Zajac at No. 3.
Ohio Wesleyan (2-5) took two points in singles play, but Covenant earned wins at three of the final four spots to take the victory. Carr and Restrepo each earned their second wins of the match in singles. Carr took down Silberman 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot and Restrepo was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Quinn at No. 4.Â
Madelyn Savage garnered a three-set win over Ale Coronel-Zegarra in comeback fashion 1-6, 6-4, 12-10 at the No. 1 flight.
Anna Logan capped the win with her 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 over Zajac.
UP NEXT
Covenant returns to action on Monday against Ohio Northern (11:30 a.m.) and Saint Mary's (7 p.m.).
