TEXAS -- The Covenant men's tennis team finished off a weekend sweep of Texas foes in the Lone Star state with 7-2 wins over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday and a 7-2 victory over East Texas Baptist on Saturday.
Covenant (4-3) won all three of its matches in Texas by identical 7-2 scores. The trip marked the first time the program has played matches in Texas and first all-time meetings with all three opponents (Texas Lutheran, Mary Hardin-Baylor, East Texas Baptist).
In Friday's 7-2 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Scots swept doubles play before taking the top four flights in singles to cruise to the win.
Austin Dreslinski and
Solomon Crouch held down the top doubles flight with an 8-5 win over UMHB's Alejandro Omana and Cody Aaron. At No. 2,
Ethan Gibson and
Gill Dunn were 8-6 victors over Diego Martinez and Robert Galligan.
Tyler Kelly and
Camden Lashley completed the sweep with a narrow, 8-7, win over Andre Maltzahn and Ethan Kittredge.
In singles, Covenant outlasted the Cru in a pair of three-set matches. Dreslinski topped Omana 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in a comeback win at the top flight, while Crouch defeated Brylee White in comeback fashion 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 3.
Gibson took a 6-3, 6-2 win over Aaron at the No. 2 spot. Dunn was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Kittredge at No. 4.
In a 7-2 victory against East Texas Baptist on Saturday, the Scots took a 2-1 lead in doubles play and then grabbed five of the six singles points to earn the win.
Dreslinski and Crouch opened the match with an 8-3 win over ETBU's Reid Jones and Spencer Carey at the top flight. Gibson and Dunn gave the Scots a 2-0 lead with their 8-4 win over Randal Lemmon and Slade Austin at No. 2.
Dreslinski notched another win at the top flight in singles with his 6-1, 6-0 win over Lemmon. Crouch made it a 4-1 lead for the Scots with his 6-0, 6-2 win over Brycen Fears at No. 3. Dunn then clinched the match for the Scots with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Abraham Silva at the No. 4 spot.
Chris Morton and Lashley collected wins at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Morton won 6-3, 6-2 over Spencer Carey, while Lashley downed Jones 6-1, 6-4.

The Scots will travel to Orlando for the next six matches, starting March 5 vs. Ohio Wesleyan.
