Baseball Defeats Emory & Henry, 6-1

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Covenant baseball team garnered a rainy 6-1 victory in seven innings over Emory & Henry on Saturday afternoon.

The teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader, but game two was postponed due to weather conditions atop Lookout Mountain.

The Scots would use back-to-back home runs in a five-run sixth inning to produce the 6-1 win over the visiting Wasps.

Emory & Henry struck first, as Hayden Milley hit a home run to right field in the top of the first inning, making it 1-0.

The score would remain that way until the bottom of the fifth when Covenant tied it up at one (1-1). After Trevor Grapenthin walked and reached third off a throwing error by the catcher, he was brought in to score thanks to a sacrifice groundout from Kenny Mills.

And the Scots were far from done, as they would record five hits and five runs in the next inning, allowing them to take a 6-1 lead.

After the Wasps notched two outs, George Manera reached first thanks to a walk. Pinch hitter Tyler Cox then got the rally started with a two-RBI home run to give Covenant a 3-1 lead.

He was immediately followed by Grapenthin, who would also hit a homer, quickly making it 4-1.

Joseph Ridenour was then walked, and Zeke Gilbert singled, putting two Scots on base. Mills would then notch a double, bringing in the two baserunners and extending Covenant's lead to five (6-1).

Soon after, the Scots were able to hold the Wasps hitless and scoreless in the top of the seventh, helping them seal their five-run victory.

Cox was 1-for-1 with two RBIs. Grapenthin was also 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI, while Mills was 1-of-3 with three RBIs. Bryce Bollinger (2-0) started on the mound for the Scots, pitching six innings and recording one earned run, one walk, and five strikeouts.

For Emory & Henry, Milley finished 1-of-3 with an RBI. Will Clark (1-2) picked up the loss, with five earned runs, six walks, and six strikeouts in six innings pitched.

The Scots improve to 4-4, while the Wasps fall to 3-6.
