BEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- A long trip and a lengthy delay did not deter the Covenant men's tennis team as the Scots opened their Texas trip this weekend with a 7-2 win over Texas Lutheran late Thursday night.
It was the first of three matches in Texas for Covenant (2-3).
Thursday's match was pushed back several hours due to weather and eventually moved indoors before starting around 9 p.m. central time.Â
The Scots wasted little time in taking a commanding lead over Texas Lutheran (0-5) with a doubles sweep.
Austin Dreslinski and
Solomon Crouch were 8-4 winners over Simon Carandang and Nico Rios at the top flight. At No. 2,
Tyler Kelly and
Jeb Barnette combined for an 8-3 win over Hunter-Kemball Cook and Joshua Huang.
Chris Morton and
Camden Lashley capped the sweep with an 8-1 victory over Dristan Weaver and Quinn Johnson.
The only two points Texas Lutheran earned were in three-set tiebreaks at flights No. 1 and 6.
The Scots dominated the other four spots in singles play.
Gill Dunn took a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Carandang, while
Cameron Cortman was a 7-5, 6-0 winner at No. 3 over Rios.
Chris Morton defeated Weaver 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 while
