CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. / ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Covenant women's tennis team went up against two strong SAA opponents over the weekend and went 0-2. The Scots fell to Birmingham Southern, 9-0, on Friday night at McCallie School before falling to Oglethorpe, 6-3, on Saturday in Atlanta.
Covenant drops to 3-4 on the year.
Despite some tough battles, Covenant was unable to notch a point in a 9-0 loss to Birmingham Southern on Friday night.
Madelyn Savage and
Gillian Bosko played right with the top duo of Ansley Turley and Phoebe Shapard before falling, 8-4, at the top flight in doubles.
In singles play,
Lauren Carr was narrowly defeated by Shapard 7-6, 6-2. The visiting Panthers went on to complete the sweep in the other five flights.
On Saturday in Atlanta, Covenant grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play but Oglethorpe rallied back for the win.
Nicole Restrepo and Carr were 8-5 winners over the Petrels' Sydney Dattilo and Lily Allyene at the No. 2 spot.
Kacey Melton and
Anna Logan gave the Scots a 2-1 lead with their 8-2 victory over Alexis Salgueiro and Katie Hunter at No. 3.
Savage held down the top flight in singles play with her 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Izzy Forster.Â
Three of the last five flights went to three sets, but Oglethorpe came out on top in each spot to secure the victory. Restrepo dropped a tight match at No. 2 in three sets to Dattilo, while the same fate occurred to Carr at No. 3 and
Alexis Baker at the No. 5 spot.
