Men's Tennis Falls Twice to SAA Foes

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. / ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Covenant men's tennis team narrowly fell twice over the weekend to a pair of SAA opponents. On Friday night, the Scots fell to Birmingham Southern, 5-4, at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center at McCallie School. On Saturday, the Scots were defeated by Oglethorpe, 6-3, in Atlanta.

The losses drop the Scots to 1-3 on the young season.

In Friday's loss, the Scots battled with the region foe Birmingham Southern before falling, 5-4.

Covenant fell behind, 2-1, after doubles play. Ben Luke and Camden Lashley combined for the Scots' point at No. 3 doubles with their 8-7(6) win over the Panthers' Tyler Guerra and Tom Smith.

In singles play, Covenant picked up wins from Solomon Crouch and Chris Morton. Crouch took down Elijah Ingleson at the No. 4 spot in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(5), while Morton was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Smith at No. 6.

The turning point of the match came at the No. 2 flight as Covenant's Austin Dreslinski and Birmingham Southern's Wilbur Dotson needed extra points in the third-set tiebreak to determine the winner. Dotson outlasted Dreslinski in those three sets 4-6, 7-6(5), 1-0(10) to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead in the match.

On Saturday, it was another tight battle with an SAA foe. With a short turnaround and a trip to Atlanta, the Scots fell to Oglethorpe, 6-3.

Ethan Gibson and Gill Dunn took a point in doubles play with their 8-5 win over Vincent Claussen and Kirkman Kier at the No. 2 position. The host Petrels took a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Dunn also took a win in singles as he bested Cameron Burkes 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 5 spot in the lineup. Dreslinski had the other point for the Scots with his 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win over Claussen at No. 2.
