CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. / ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Covenant men's tennis team narrowly fell twice over the weekend to a pair of SAA opponents. On Friday night, the Scots fell to Birmingham Southern, 5-4, at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center at McCallie School. On Saturday, the Scots were defeated by Oglethorpe, 6-3, in Atlanta.
The losses drop the Scots to 1-3 on the young season.
In Friday's loss, the Scots battled with the region foe Birmingham Southern before falling, 5-4.Â
Covenant fell behind, 2-1, after doubles play.
Ben Luke and
Camden Lashley combined for the Scots' point at No. 3 doubles with their 8-7(6) win over the Panthers' Tyler Guerra and Tom Smith.
In singles play, Covenant picked up wins from
Solomon Crouch and
Chris Morton. Crouch took down Elijah Ingleson at the No. 4 spot in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(5), while Morton was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Smith at No. 6.
The turning point of the match came at the No. 2 flight as Covenant's
Austin Dreslinski and Birmingham Southern's Wilbur Dotson needed extra points in the third-set tiebreak to determine the winner. Dotson outlasted Dreslinski in those three sets 4-6, 7-6(5), 1-0(10) to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead in the match.
On Saturday, it was another tight battle with an SAA foe. With a short turnaround and a trip to Atlanta, the Scots fell to Oglethorpe, 6-3.
Ethan Gibson and
Gill Dunn took a point in doubles play with their 8-5 win over Vincent Claussen and Kirkman Kier at the No. 2 position. The host Petrels took a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Dunn also took a win in singles as he bested Cameron Burkes 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 5 spot in the lineup. Dreslinski had the other point for the Scots with his 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win over Claussen at No. 2.

Covenant travels to Texas next week for three matches. The Scots take on Texas Lutheran on Feb. 24 in Belton, Texas at 2 p.m. EST (1 p.m. CST).
