Scots Win Sixth Straight

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Will Crumly and Chris Barnette had 21 points apiece to lead the Covenant men's basketball team to an 84-57 triumph over visiting Asbury in non-conference action on Tuesday night inside Barnes PE Center.

Covenant (15-6) has won six straight games and eight of the last nine overall.

Crumly inched closer to 2,000 career points on Tuesday with his 21-point effort. The graduate had 15 first-half points and ended the night 9-for-13 from the field with nine rebounds. In the process, Crumly surpassed Tommy Brown '93 for fourth all-time on Covenant's scoring list. He is just seven points away from the 2,000-career point plateau.

Barnette also had 21 points to go with nine rebounds and four assists. The senior was 4-for-4 from 3-point land and scored 12 second-half points.

Brady Palmer added 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists while Myles Jones had 11 points. Logan Pearlman had seven points and Promise Igbanu had a game-high five assists.

Covenant got off to a 14-2 lead in the first four-plus minutes of the game, capped by a Crumly dunk with 15:58 left in the first. The Scots stretched the lead to 23-7 on a Jones 3-pointer with 12:16 remaining in the period and led 40-28 at the break.

The margin never dipped below double-digits the rest of the way as the Scots poured it on in the second half.

A Barnette layup gave the Scots a 21-point lead (54-33) with 15:29 remaining. Covenant's largest lead was the final tally as Eli Witt capped the night with his basket with 32 seconds left.

Covenant swept the season series with Asbury (12-9) as the Scots also beat the Eagles in Barnes PE Center on Nov. 6 to open the season.

Covenant shot 58.6 percent (34-of-58) from the field and 11-of-21 (52.4 percent) from 3-point land in the win. The Scots limited Asbury to 33.3 percent (20-of-60) for the game.

Asbury, which saw its six-game win streak snapped, received 22 points and 13 rebounds from Nick Fort.
