CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's tennis team opened the spring season on Saturday with a loss to Centre followed by a 7-2 win over Johnson at McCallie School in Chattanooga.
It was the spring opener for Covenant (3-2).
The Scots battled, but ultimately fell 9-0 to Centre in Saturday's opener. Centre (2-0) took all three doubles matches and continued that momentum into singles play where the visiting Colonels completed the sweep.
Covenant bounced back, however, with a 7-2 win over Johnson (6-3) in the nightcap.
Lauren Carr picked up two wins to lead the Scots in the win.
The Scots took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Carr and fellow freshman
Jordan Lancaster combined for an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot over Johnson's Caitlyn Bowling and Iris Loveday. At No. 3,
Kacey Melton and
Jess Brown were 8-2 winners over Brooke Hilemon and Halle Leslie.
In singles play,
Gillian Bosko notched a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lauren Murray at No. 2, while
Nicole Restrepo was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Kaitlyn Lee at No. 3.
Covenant took the final three flights to complete the win. Carr notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bowling at No. 4 and
Alexis Baker won in three sets 6-7, 6-4, 1-0(8) over Hilemon at No. 5.
Anna Logan rounded out the victory with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Leslie.
