Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Splits Twin-Bill with Emory

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Covenant baseball team used big innings en route to a 13-4 victory over Emory in Saturday's first game before the host Eagles responded with a 12-1 victory over the Scots in the series finale at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

Emory (3-1) claimed the series win over Covenant (2-1) with the win in the finale.

GAME ONE: Covenant 13, Emory 4

Andrew Brock had two hits and four RBIs while Bryce Bollinger threw five strong innings to lead the Scots over Emory, 13-4.

Covenant had a five-run third inning, a four-run fifth, and a three-run eighth to pull away from the Eagles. The Scots had 10 hits as Brock and Ken Burke had two apiece.

That was enough offense for Bollinger and the bullpen. Bollinger (1-0) went five innings and allowed two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and zero walks to pick up the win. Zach Tolleson went three innings and Scotty Smith made his collegiate debut with a scoreless ninth.

Covenant got on the board with a run in the second inning as Burke singled home McKaleb Harlemon. In a five-run third, back-to-back two-run hits from Josh Harvey and Kenny Mills provided the highlights. Brock capped the frame with a sacrifice fly.

Leading 6-2 in the fifth, Covenant scored four times. Harlemon had an RBI double and Brock followed with an RBI single. George Manera produced his first career RBI with a groundout that plated Brock before Chase McBryar drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Brock capped the scoring in the eighth with a two-run single.

Jack Brodsky (0-1) got the loss for Emory, while four Eagles had two hits apiece.

GAME TWO: Emory 12, Covenant 1

The roles reversed in game two as Emory jumped on the Scots early and scored runs in each of the first four innings to earn a 12-1 win.

Manny Mendoza had a two-out RBI single in the seventh to plate the Scots' lone run of the contest. Covenant had four hits in the game and Emory tallied 11.

Emory had a four-run second and tacked on three runs in both the third and fourth innings. Nick Pettit (0-1) received the loss for the Scots, while Tyler McLoughlin (1-0) got the win.
