Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Claims 67-10 Victory over Wolves

DECEMBER 7– Last night, Covenant Women's Basketball took on the Wesleyan Wolves of Macon, Georgia to open up CCS conference play for the 2022-2023 season. It was another successful night for the Scots, as they defeated their conference foe 67-10.

After winning the tip off, Covenant was the first to score. Ruthie Moore put up the first shot after Cosette Kirsch found her in the paint. All within the first minute of the game, the Scots put up five more points, extending their lead to seven.

Though holding Wesleyan to zero points in the first quarter, the Scots struggled to score after their initial run. Shooting just under 28%, Covenant could not find any luck– only one more basket would score to conclude the period.

However, as the second quarter dwindled down to the final few minutes, the Scots began to find a groove and knock down more of their shots. After a Karis McIntosh three pointer and back-to-back layups by Megan Rouse, two more Covenant baskets were to follow, all within the last two minutes of first-half play.

The Scots were able to continue to hold the Wolves to zero, not giving up any easy shots. Covenant forced Wesleyan to shoot outside of the paint, putting their opponent in a tough position. The half ended with a score of 29-0.

During the third quarter, Covenant picked up where they left off and continued to gain traction. More than doubling their score from the previous two quarters combined, all while holding Wesleyan to one point, the Scots were up 55-1.

The Wolves were able to find some fire in the fourth period, scoring all but one of their points for the game during the final ten minutes. Wesleyan's Jamila Ra-Hashim led her team with nine rebounds, five points, and two steals.

As for the Scots, head coach Skylar Bareford certainly utilized the wide array of talents on her team. With each player on the roster seeing minutes on the court, each player was also able to get on the board.

Karis McIntosh, currently averaging 12.1 PPG this season, led the team in scoring once again with 13 points on the night. Just a basket behind, Cosette Kirsch added 11 points of her own as well three steals and four assists.

Megan Rouse also had quite the night, tallying four blocks, nine rebounds, and 10 points.
