Women's Hoops Drops Road Game at LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant women's basketball team could not keep up with the hot shooting of LaGrange as the host Panthers dropped the Scots, 68-42, on Tuesday evening inside Mariotti Gym.

Covenant (6-5, 3-2 USA South) and LaGrange (10-6, 5-2 USA South) were making up a game that was originally scheduled for Jan. 7.

The Scots hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter, but LaGrange used a 13-0 run from the end of the first period through the opening minutes of the second to gain the lead for good. LaGrange hit nine 3-pointers on the night, including eight of its first 12, to pull away for the victory.

Ruthie Moore led Covenant with 12 points and three rebounds. Karis McIntosh and Cosette Kirsch each had eight points, with Kirsch gathering five rebounds. Breezy Savage came off the bench to score seven points with three rebounds.

Covenant's first four made baskets in the first quarter were from beyond the arc. Kirsch drained a triple on the opening possession of the game, while McIntosh, Savage, and Moore all had triples in the first period.

Moore's 3-pointer tied the game at 13-13 with three minutes left in the first, but the Scots went scoreless over the next seven minutes spilling into the second quarter. During that time, LaGrange went on a 13-0 run to build a 26-13 lead. The Panthers went into the break with a 36-26 lead.

Covenant would not get the deficit under 10 the rest of the way as LaGrange pulled away for the conference victory.

The Scots ended the night shooting 34.9 percent (15-of-43) with five 3-pointers. LaGrange connected on 40 percent (24-of-60) with nine 3-pointers.

Megan English had 13 points with Gracie Brunel and Breonna Glover adding 12 each for LaGrange.
