LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant volleyball team disposed of visiting Asbury in three sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-18) on Tuesday night inside Barnes PE Center to give head coach
Joanna Ehman her 150th career coaching victory.
Covenant (3-2) has won both of its home matches this season.
Ehman, in her ninth year, is already the winningest head coach in program history and added to that total with the milestone victory on Tuesday night. Ehman's teams have won four USA South regular season titles, two conference tournaments, and made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament in her tenure.
A balanced attack led the way for the Scots in the non-conference win over the visiting Eagles.
Riley Howe and
Summer Johnson had eight kills apiece in the victory, while
Meriel Chupp and
Kyla Bailey had seven each. Chupp hit .353 in the match as Covenant hit .159 as a group.
Rachel Bartlett added 31 assists, eight digs, three kills, and a match-high three blocks (two solo, one combined).
Anna Baldwin led the back row with 15 digs with Bailey collecting 10.
Covenant fell behind early in the first, but rebounded and took a 12-7 lead. The lead grew to six (20-14) after a Howe kill and Johnson followed with a kill of her own to make it 22-14. Howe capped the opening frame with her fourth kill of the set to give the Scots a 1-0 match lead.
In the second, Covenant had 13 kills and a match-best .225 hitting percentage to take a 25-17 set win. The Scots again battled back from an early deficit, but took the lead for good on a kill from
Grace Logterman that made it 14-13.Â
Covenant then completed the sweep in the third set.
Kelsey Carman came on and registered three kills in the set and Chupp added four to help the Scots pull away.
Bethany Fye had seven kills to lead Asbury (0-2) while Rilee O'Day had 13 assists and Madi Bryant added 13 digs.
