MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Covenant baseball team concluded its season with a doubleheader split at Maryville on Saturday. Covenant won the first game, 15-11, before dropping the rubber game of the series, 8-2.

Covenant ends the year with a 19-14 overall record.

GAME ONE: Covenant 15, Maryville 11

Kenny Mills hit a grand slam, Joseph Ridenour had three hits, and Conor Austin threw a career-high four innings out of the bullpen as the Scots took game one, 15-11, over Maryville.

Ridenour reached base five times as he was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two walks, while Mills' grand slam highlighted a six-run third inning that gave Covenant the lead for good.

Austin (2-1) came on in relief in the third inning and tossed a career-high four innings while holding the host Scots to two runs with two strikeouts to notch the win.

Ross Skipper tossed a scoreless ninth inning to thwart a Maryville rally in the final stanza.

Covenant trailed 3-0 in the second, but got on the board with a pair of run-scoring singles from Ridenour and Trevor Grapenthin. 

In the third, the Scots sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs on three hits to grab an 8-4 lead. Mills hit a grand slam to left field, his first homer of the year, while Lewis Saunders drove in two with a single.

Covenant added three runs in the sixth as Ridenour delivered a two-run single. In the seventh, Brooks DuBose and Zeke Gilbert had RBI singles and Ken Burke got into the act with a run-scoring single in the eighth.

Covenant had 14 hits in the win as Ridenour and Gilbert had three apiece. Burke added two hits, while Saunders went 1-for-4 with three RBIs.

Maryville got four hits each from Gabe Lopez and Jimmy Meredith. Starting pitcher Jacob Hanson (1-4) got the loss.

GAME TWO: Maryville 8, Covenant 2

Maryville scored seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for an 8-2 victory and a series win.

Alex Gonzalez went 2-for-4 for Covenant, while Tyler Cox had a two-run single in the loss.

Bryce Bollinger (0-1) made his first career start and went four strong innings allowing one run on three hits.

Cox got Covenant on the board in the sixth with a two-out, two-run single to close the gap to 4-2. However, Maryville answered with four runs in its half of the inning to pull away for the victory.
