INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Covenant volleyball team battled on the final day of the AVCA Division III Invitational but fell to Illinois Wesleyan in five sets before dropping a four-set match to Webster in the finale.
Covenant (9-8) closed out the regular season with the losses and will await official word from the USA South on its destination for the USA South West Division Tournament, which begins on April 14.
Complete box scores will be available at a later time for both matches.
In the first match against Illinois Wesleyan, Covenant rallied from a two-set deficit to send it into a fifth set before falling. Set scores were 25-17, 25-15, 25-27, 24-26, 15-11.
Rachel Bartlett had 35 assists, 10 digs, five kills, and three total blocks in the loss. Emma Kalbfleisch had nine kills and three blocks while Sara Delk, Meriel Chupp, and Alexa Spurling had five kills apiece. Spurling also added a team-high four blocks and Chupp had three.
Arianne Pascoe led the back row effort with 12 digs as Anna Baldwin and Savannah Savage had 11 digs each and Summer Johnson had 10.
In the four-set loss to Webster, Covenant fell 25-23, 25-22, 16-25, 25-22 to the Gorloks.
Spurling had another strong match with a team-best 11 kills, while Reagan Keener had nine and Johnson eight. Bartlett had 32 assists and seven kills with Chupp adding six kills and Riley Howe five.
UP NEXT
Covenant will be the No. 3 West seed and will travel in the first round of the USA South West Tournament on Wednesday, April 14.
