LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's tennis team won its fifth straight match and dropped just two games in a 9-0 sweep of Berea on Wednesday afternoon at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
Covenant (8-2, 3-0 USA South) extended its season-best winning streak and has dropped just one point in three conference matches. The Scots' 8-2 overall record is the best 10-match start to a season in program history.
The Scots rolled to a 3-0 match lead after doubles play. Madelyn Savage and Gillian Bosko moved to 7-2 on the year as a tandem with an 8-0 win over Berea's Agnes Dotse and Grace Faiz at the top flight. At No. 2, Laney Beckwith and Kacey Melton also pulled off a sweep of their opponent, while Alexis Baker and Dani Rappuhn were 8-0 winners at No. 3.
It was more of the same in singles play. Savage defended the top spot with her 6-0, 6-1 win over Dotse that saw Savage improve to 7-3 on the year. Melton also notched her seventh singles victory of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 over CJ Verbeck.
Beckwith clinched the match for the Scots with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Stephanie Itumba at the No. 3 spot.
Covenant continued to roll in the bottom half of the lineup. Anna Logan was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 4 over Lisa Mangin, while Baker also won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 over Faiz.
Westra collected her first singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Kaylee Jorgenson at No. 6.
SCHEDULE CHANGE
Due to anticipated inclement weather on Saturday, Covenant's home match with Piedmont has been moved up to Friday, March 26 at 4 p.m. at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
