LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Covenant men's soccer team got the Senior Day win over LaGrange, 3-1. The Scots have now won their last three contests and improve to 5-1 in conference play.
It did not take long for Covenant to strike, as their first goal came in the seventh minute of play. Assisted by Thomas Drake, Jake Major was able to get one by LaGrange goalie, Lucas Wright, giving his team the 1-0 lead.
Covenant would continue to take shots, recording 10 for the first period. And the onslaught would pay off, as the Scots would take a 2-0 lead after a goal from Austin Berry in the 30th minute, assisted by Knox Gibson.
Entering the second half up 2-0, Covenant would strike again in the 61st minute as Cale McLarnon scored his first goal of the season, making it 3-0 in favor of the Scots.
Not too long after, in the 71st minute, Enrique Hernandez put one in for LaGrange, assisted by Andrew Valbuena; but it was too late as Covenant ran away with the 3-1 victory.
Covenant took 17 shots, 12 of which were shots on goal. Mercer Stout led the Scots with four shots, while McLarnon took three. Berry, Major, and Drake all had two shots.
Isaac Schoutko started at goalie for Covenant and played the entire match. Schoutko earned five saves on six shots on goal.
The visiting Panthers tallied 15 total shots and were led by Cam Perkins and Hernandez, who both took four. Wright played the entire 90 minutes in the goalie box and recorded nine saves on 12 shots on goal.
LaGrange falls to 1-4.
