Baseball Dominates Greenville in DH Sweep

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Covenant baseball team completed the impressive sweep of Greenville on Saturday afternoon, as the Scots took game one 9-1 and game two 17-7.

Covenant recorded 21 hits and 21 RBIs over both games.

GAME ONE: Covenant 9, Greenville 1

The Scots used eight hits to score nine runs to easily take game one from the Panthers.

Greenville would connect on three hits during the first inning and bring across one run to open up a 1-0 lead to start the game. But, it was all Covenant from there, as the Scots' defense would only allow a single hit for the remainder of the contest.

Thanks to a hit-by-pitch, a walk, and a wild pitch, the Scots gained a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. After a scoreless second inning, Covenant would go on to score at least one run in each remaining inning.

The Scots scored two in the third, extending the lead to three (4-1). The runs came thanks to a wild pitch and yet another home run by Brooks DuBose. The solo homer marks DuBose's fifth on the season and earned him his 22nd RBI.

After scoring one in the fourth, the Scots entered the bottom of the fifth up 5-1. During the inning, Covenant would record three hits and bring in two more runs, extending their lead to six (7-1).

The Scots' pitching would not allow a hit in the top of the sixth, allowing the offense to bring in another two runs in the bottom of the inning. The final two runs sealed the 9-1 victory for Covenant.

DuBose went 1-for-3 and earned two RBIs. Hunter Christian was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Joseph Ridenour went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Trevor Grapenthin also was 2-for-3.

Nick Pettit got the start on the mound for the Scots, pitching five innings and only allowing four hits. Cody Gibson pitched two innings of relief, allowing zero hits.

Landon Mokris led Greenville, going 2-for-3. Luke Fleener pitched 4.1 innings for the Panthers, allowing seven hits and is recorded with the loss (0-3).

GAME TWO: Covenant 17, Greenville 7

The Scots used a colossal 13-run third inning to earn themselves the 17-10 win. Covenant recorded 13 hits and 15 RBIs during the contest.

After scoring one run in the first off of a double by Josh Harvey and a single by Tyler Moore, Covenant entered the third inning with a 1-0 lead.

From there, the Scots would score 13 runs off of six hits in their half of the third. During the hitting onslaught, McKaleb Harlemon hit his first home run in a Covenant uniform, bringing in two runs. Harlemon also hit a triple during the inning.

Coming up to bat after a pitching change, holding a 9-0 lead, Moore would add insult to injury, as he would hit his first career grand slam, adding four more runs to the score.

The triple from Harlemon would bring in the 13th run of the inning, making it a 14-0 lead.

Greenville was not to be outdone, though, as they would have a seven-run fourth inning off of five hits. Covenant saw three pitching changes during the inning, while all seven runs came with two outs on the board.

After a scoreless fifth, the Scots entered the bottom of the sixth inning up 14-7. Doubles by Harrison Adelgren and Collins Poole brought in two more runs, extending the lead to nine (16-7).

Just needing one more score to end it in a run-rule, Jared Urick picked a good time to hit his first career home run in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game with a 17-7 victory.

Moore was 2-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs scored in game two. Harlemon went 3-for-4 and recorded three RBIs. Adelgren went 2-for-3.

George Schneider led the Panthers, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lucas Teel got the start on the mound for Greenville and records the loss (0-1).

Zach Tolleson got the start at the pitcher position for the Scots and only allowed one hit through three innings pitched.

The Scots improve to 9-5, as they won all three games in the series against Greenville. The Panthers drop to 0-9.
