CONWAY/CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- The Covenant women's tennis team greeted the 2021 season with a pair of road wins over the weekend in Arkansas. The Scots took down Hendrix, 8-1, on Friday night before capping the trip with a 7-2 win over Ozarks on Saturday.
In Friday night's 8-1 win over Hendrix, the Scots took two wins in doubles play before sweeping through singles to complete the win. Madelyn Savage and Gillian Bosko took an 8-1 win at the top doubles spot, while Dani Rappuhn and Anna Logan were 8-2 winners at No. 3 doubles as Covenant took a 2-1 match lead.
Covenant breezed through singles play to earn the win. Nicole Restrepo took a 6-1, 6-1 win over Grace House at No. 3 to make it a 3-1 match before Savage clinched the contest with her 6-1, 6-3 win over Greer Ayers at the No. 1 spot.
Bosko made it a 4-1 match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sarah Morris at No. 2. Kacey Melton, Rappuhn, and Logan were all winners at Nos. 4-6 in single-set matches. Melton and Rappuhn each earned their first collegiate singles wins, while Rappuhn also notched her first career doubles triumph.
On Saturday, Covenant eased past a limited Ozarks squad. The Scots picked up two default wins, but still won five of the seven contests that were played en route to the 7-2 victory.
Savage and Bosko swept Angelica Garcia and Kaitlin Gutierrez, 8-0, at the top doubles spot as the Scots took a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Rappuhn topped Lea Terrell 6-1, 7-6(2) at No. 5 and Bosko picked up the match-clinching win with her 6-0, 6-2 over Garcia at the No. 1 spot.
Savage collected a 6-0, 6-3 win over Alexis Rogers at No. 2, while Melton notched her second win of the weekend with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Terrell.
It was the first all-time meeting between Covenant and Ozarks in women's tennis.
