CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's soccer team triumphed over Brevard Saturday afternoon, 3-1. The win is the second USA South victory so far for the Scots.
Originally scheduled to be played at Covenant, the game was relocated to the UTC Sports Complex due to field conditions at Scotland Yard.
It was the 20th straight USA South regular season victory for Covenant, continuing the longest active streak in the conference.
The Tornados played a man down after a red card was issued to Igor da Silva in the 11th minute. That didn't stop them from striking first, though, as Ryan Lynch got one past Covenant goalie, Henry Hooks, in the 20th minute (assisted by Trystan Wallace).
The Scots would soon answer back with a goal of their own. Assisted by Nathan Laughlin, Mercer Stout scored the tying goal in the 42nd minute. The score was 1-1 entering the second half.
Knox Gibson would give Covenant the 2-1 lead with his goal in the 66th minute (assisted by Stout). The Scots third goal would come in the 88th minute by Jake Major (assisted by Gibson).
Two out of Stout's three shots were shots on goals. Major and Gibson were both 1-for-1, as their only shots resulted in goals.
Hooks played the entire 90 minutes for the Scots. He recorded three saves on four shots on goal.
Pedro Campos got the start in the box for Brevard. Campos played the first half and had two saves on three shots on goal. Jack Pruehs came in for the Tornados in the second half and allowed two goals (0 saves).
Covenant improves to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.
