BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Kenny Duffin shot an opening-round 73 and the Covenant golf team began the season with a seventh-place finish at the 10th annual Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at the Brunswick Country Club.
Covenant finished in a tie for seventh in the 14-team field with a two-day score of 627 (311-316). The Scots were the lone Division III team in the NAIA-dominated event. NAIA-ranked No. 1, and host, Coastal Georgia took home the team title.
Duffin opened the event, and his collegiate career, with a 1-over 73 in Monday's first round. The freshman carded an 81 in the final round on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 27th overall with a 154. Fellow freshman Hunter Hall also made his collegiate debut in the tournament.
Crawford Collett collected a pair of 78s to place in a tie for 33rd in the tournament with his 156. Will DeMersseman also placed 33rd in the event after he shot a 76 in the first round followed by an 80 on Tuesday. Isaac Duncan improved by seven strokes in the second round with his 77 -- a career-low round -- and finished with a career-best 36-hole score of 161 (84-77).
Emile Raath of Faulkner took home medalist honors with a 36-hole tournament score of 140 (69-71).
