Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Bested by Asbury, 94-62

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The hot shooting of visiting Asbury proved to be too much for the Covenant women's basketball team, as the Scots fell, 94-62, on Friday evening inside Barnes PE Center.

Asbury (8-2) knocked down 18 3-pointers, while shooting 40 percent from behind the arc. The visiting Eagles also shot over 46 percent from the field (35-for-76) for the game.

Though Asbury hit five from downtown in the first quarter, Covenant remained within five points (21-16) by the end of the period thanks to three 3-pointers of their own. The triples came from Mary Elaine Mitchell, Karis McIntosh, and Naomi Crumley.

But the visiting Eagles would go on to pull away from the Scots in the second quarter, shooting nearly 62 percent (13-for-21) from the field and 55.6 percent from 3-point land during the period. The hot shooting helped Asbury to put up 32 points and take a 22-point lead at the half (53-31).

The Eagles went on to hit seven more 3-pointers in the third quarter, as they continued to widen the deficit. From there, it was all Asbury, as they ran away with a 94-62 road victory.

Covenant (6-3) was led by Mitchell who had 10 points along with two 3-pointers. Destiny Mergilles added nine points, eight rebounds, and two steals, while McIntosh went 3-for-4 from downtown to contribute another nine points. Ruthie Moore totaled six assists and eight rebounds. Covenant had 17 assists on 23 made field goals.

Cosette Kirsch had eight points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Madison Blevins, Megan Rouse, and Crumley all added seven points apiece.
