LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- A dominating offensive attack in both matches led the Covenant volleyball team to a pair of USA South sweeps on Homecoming Saturday inside Barnes PE Center.
Covenant opened the day with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-17, 25-10) win over Brevard before taking down Wesleyan in three sets (25-20, 25-14, 25-16) in the finale.
Covenant (13-6, 7-1 USA South) extended its win streak to eight, the longest streak for the Scots since 2017. The Scots also remained undefeated at home on the year at 6-0.
MATCH ONE: Covenant 3, Brevard 0
Covenant hit a season-high .403 to defeat Brevard in three sets (25-8, 25-17, 25-10).
Grace Logterman had a match-high eight kills and hit .727 to go with three blocks.
Riley Howe had seven kills and three blocks,
Rachel Bartlett tallied 20 assists, seven digs, and two aces in the win.
Emma Kalbfleisch also tallied six kills and three aces.
Covenant hit .619 in the opening frame and had 14 kills as a unit to pick up the 25-8 set one victory. The Scots used a 12-1 run in the set, capped by a
Meriel Chupp kill, to go ahead 15-4 and cruised to the set win from there.Â
The Scots hit over. 300 in each of the final two sets to complete the sweep. Covenant trailed just twice in the second set, but quickly erased each of those deficits to claim a 25-17 win before securing the sweep with a 25-10 win in the third.
Kyla Bailey chipped in five kills and three digs, while Chupp and
Reagan Keener had four kills each.
Summer Johnson had 13 assists and
Anna Baldwin had six digs.
MATCH TWO: Covenant 3, Wesleyan 0
Facing a pesky Wesleyan squad, the host Scots held off the visiting Wolves in each set to earn the sweep (25-20, 25-14, 25-16).
Kalbfleisch had 10 kills and a .692 hitting percentage to pace the Scots, while Bartlett had a double-double of 23 assists and 11 digs to go along with five kills. Keener tallied seven kills with Logterman and Chupp each totaling five kills.
Tori Moffatt and Kesley Carman each had four kills, with Carman recording 11 digs. Johnson added 13 assists and five digs.
As a team, Covenant had 43 kills and a .283 hitting percentage.
