Volleyball Reaches 20 Wins with Saturday Sweeps

BREVARD, N.C. -- The Covenant volleyball team wrapped up regular season play on Saturday with a pair of sweeps over Wesleyan and Brevard in USA South action inside Boshamer Gym.

Covenant (20-8, 14-2 USA South) registers its first 20-win season since 2017 and the fourth in head coach Joanna Ehman's tenure with the Scots. Covenant will be the No. 2 West seed in next week's USA South Tournament and host No. 3 West seed Berea on Tuesday (time TBA).

MATCH ONE: Covenant 3, Wesleyan 0

Covenant came out swinging, winning their first match of the day in three sets: 25-15, 25-20, 25-15.

The Scots breezed through the first set and used a 7-1 run to end the second set. They also outscored the Wolves 12-2 to end the third and get the straight-set victory.

Emma Kalbfleisch led Covenant with eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Kyla Bailey and Riley both added six kills. Rachel Bartlett tallied 13 assists with five kills and four digs, while Anna Baldwin gathered 12 digs. 

Covenant hit .292 as a team with 40 kills in the three-set victory.

Jaylyn Randle led Wesleyan with seven kills. Zaysharae Malia-Hugh added 15 digs.

MATCH TWO: Covenant 3, Brevard 0

The Scots picked up right where they left off, topping the host Tornados in straight sets: 25-19, 25-12, 25-20.

Covenant dominated the offensive attack, posting a 16-4 run in the second set and a 17-5 run in the third.

Bailey led the Scots with a career-high 15 kills, while hitting .387 and tallying one solo block. Bartlett added 26 assists, 11 digs, and three aces. Meriel Chupp and Kelsey Carman each had five kills as the Scots totaled 36 in the win.

Baldwin had a team-high 13 digs and Savannah Savage registered 12.

Kaitlyn Pressley had eight kills, nine assists, and seven kills for Brevard. Logan Priddy connected on 15 assists.

UP NEXT

Covenant will host Berea on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the USA South Tournament. Match time will be announced later.
