NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Anna Rose Epting scored 13 points and the Covenant women's basketball team finished out its exhibition season with a 75-37 loss at Division I foe Lipscomb on Monday night inside Allen Arena.
Covenant (0-3) was playing its second exhibition against a Division I opponent this season (Mercer, Dec. 5). Lipscomb (1-1) counted the game as a regular season contest and picked up its first win of the year.
Epting led the Scots with her 13 points as she connected on three 3-pointers and grabbed six rebounds. Megan Rouse added eight points and six boards, while Karis McIntosh and Cosette Kirsch had five points each. Ruthie Moore also had six rebounds.
Covenant trailed by 15 points at the half but had a productive first two periods against a bigger Lipscomb squad. The Scots outrebounded the host Bisons, 25-22, in the opening half and held Lipscomb to 36.8 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from deep.
Epting had Covenant's first basket of the game and a Tori Caldwell jumper got the Scots within 10-6 with 4:17 left in the opening quarter. Lipscomb ended the period on a 7-2 run to grab a 17-8 lead entering the second.
A Kirsch 3-pointer followed by a Rouse jumper trimmed the Covenant deficit to 19-13 with nine minutes left before halftime. Epting and Rouse combined for Covenant's last eight points of the second as Epting hit a pair of 3-pointers sandwiched around a Rouse bucket as the Scots trailed 36-21 at the half.
Lipscomb pulled away in the third by outscoring Covenant 22-9 and would go on and claim the win.
Jordan Peete had 13 points to lead Lipscomb and Dorie Harrison had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bisons finished the game shooting 41 percent (28-of-68) from the floor with eight 3-pointers. Covenant connected on 23 percent (14-of-60) with five triples.
