Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Scots Roll Past Brevard for Fourth Straight Win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's basketball team rolled to its fourth straight win with a 75-55 victory over Brevard on Tuesday night in USA South action inside Barnes PE Center.

Covenant (9-4, 6-0 USA South) remains the lone unbeaten team within USA South play in the conference and atop the West Division. The Scots are riding a season-best four-game win streak, while holding opponents to fewer than 70 points in each game during the stretch.

It was a balanced effort from the Scots as 12 different players found the scoring column. Will Crumly paced Covenant with a near double-double of 12 points and nine rebounds after being honored prior to the game as the newest member of the program's 1,000-career point club. Chris Barnette added nine points and six rebounds and Mitchell Hollis also tallied nine points.

Promise Igbanu chipped in eight points, all in the first half, to go with a game-high four assists and five rebounds. Daevon Platt and Zack Allen each had seven points in the win.

Covenant used a 10-0 run in the first half to gain the lead for good. Igbanu had back-to-back baskets to start the run and an Allen conventional three-point play capped the streak to give the Scots an 18-9 lead with 13:34 left in the first.

The lead stretched to 19 (32-13) after a Crumly bucket at the eight-minute mark of the opening period. The Scots shot 57.1 percent in the first half and led 38-30 at the break.

Covenant stamped out any hope Brevard had of a comeback early in the second half. The Scots used a 9-0 run to open the final stanza, highlighted by five points from James Mitchell, to go ahead 47-30 with 17:03 remaining.

The Scots extended the lead to as many as 27 late in the second half.

Covenant finished the night shooting 50 percent (30-of-60) from the floor with eight 3-pointers. The Scots dominated the glass with a 42-18 margin in rebounding, including 12 offensive rebounds that turned into 15 second-chance points. Brevard was held without an offensive rebound.

Cannon Lamb and Demari Hopper led Brevard (3-11, 2-5 USA South) with 13 points apiece. Levi Lamb had eight points and surpassed 1,000 career points in the process. The visiting Tornados connected on 43.1 percent (22-of-51) for the game.
