Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Scots Cap Homecoming with 6-0 Rout of Methodist

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Five different Covenant men's soccer players recorded a goal as the Scots continued their winning ways with a 6-0 rout of visiting Methodist on Homecoming Saturday at Scotland Yard.

The win was the fifth in a row for Covenant (8-0-1, 5-0 USA South) and the Scots remain unbeaten on the year. The 8-0-1 overall record is the best start to a season since 2000 when Covenant began the year 13-0.

Mercer Stout was at it again in the first half on Saturday. The USA South leader in goals scored tallied two within a minute of each other to give the Scots the lead for good. Stout scored in the 13th minute as he collected a deflection off his initial attempt and put the shot past Methodist keeper Cole Hupp for the goal. In the 14th minute, Stout recovered a loose ball outside the box and blasted it into the net to make it 2-0.

Stout recorded his third two-goal match of the year and has 10 goals for the season, six of which are game-winners.

Covenant added another tally before halftime when Austin Berry collected a deflection from Parker Owen's shot and scored from the right side of the box in the 26th minute. The goal was Berry's fourth of the year and Owen registered the assist.

Up 3-0 entering the second half, the Scots continued to pour it on.

Jake Major scored in the 65th minute as he received a pass into the box from Josh Brower then worked to find space before taking a shot that deflected off a Methodist defender and into the net for the score to make it 4-0. The goal was Major's third of the year.

The Scots tacked on two more goals late. Anthony Calbo headed in a perfect cross from Aaron Riggs in the 79th minute, his second goal of the year, before Calbo assisted on Jack Allen's goal in the 82nd minute. The Allen goal was his first of the year.

It was the fourth shutout in the last five matches for Covenant. Paul Lemay made four saves for the Scots, while Covenant out-shot Methodist 20-8 on the day.

Hupp and Dylan Anderson had three saves each at the net for Methodist (2-5-1, 1-4-1 USA South).
