MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's soccer team used four second-half goals to propel past Southern Virginia, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Maryville College on Saturday afternoon in the Maryville Bicentennial Kick-Off Classic.
Josh Brower had a breakout game with three assists on the day to lead the charge.
The Scots found the back of the net first as Austin Berry scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Brower just 3:48 into the match.
Just 13 seconds later Southern Virginia (0-2-0) evened the match at one with a Zach Martin goal from Gabriel Ramirez.
Just 10 minutes later Covenant (2-0-0) regained the lead with Mercer Stout's second goal of the season as Brower picked up his third assist of the season.
The second half was all the Scots as they put together four goals to handle the Knights.
Stout got the half going just two minutes in with his third goal of the season from Noah Lee to extend the lead to two goals.
Jesse Riggs found the back of the net off a Brower corner in the 51st minute before Anthony Calbo put one home just nine minutes later from Connor McGimsey.
Anthony Buzzeo scored off a pass from Matt Morefield in the 76th minute of the match to wrap up the scoring for Covenant.
Henry Hooks got the start in goal for the Scots going 55:53 allowing just the one goal with three saves. Isaac Schoutko wrapped up the rest of the match, making two saves on both shots on goal he faced.
Covenant held advantages in both shots (27-14), and corner kicks (7-1) for the match.
Southern Virginia's keepers were able to make a combined nine saves while facing 15 shots on goal.

The Scots return to Scotland Yard for their home opener against Berry on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. The match is part of the Kyle Rote Jr. Invitational.
