GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Covenant softball team won game 2-1 over Greensboro on Saturday afternoon before dropping game two 4-0.

The Scots are now 5-8 overall while the Pride is now 11-7 on the season.

Erika Mast had a 5-for-7 day in the two games to lead the Scots in the split.

Lauren Kierpa pitched a combined six innings getting the win in game one while allowing only five hits without a run and two strikeouts on the day.

GAME ONE: Covenant 2, Greensboro 1

The Scots took advantage of an error in the top half of the seventh inning to come back and win game one 2-1.

After two scoreless innings to start the game Greensboro was finally able to get on the board with a sacrifice fly to center field to take the 1-0 advantage.

Covenant answered in the fourth as Madyson Gibbins drew a walk to bring in Cope Whitaker to knot things up at one.

In the top half of the seventh Aileen Hill doubled to left with one out in the inning. Whitaker then grounded out to short for the second out of the inning and Mast reached on a throwing error to allow Hill to score and the Scots took a 2-1 advantage heading into the final half inning.

Kierpa allowed a one-out single in the bottom half of the seventh but was able to get the next two batters to hold on for the victory.

Sarah Huskey got the start in the circle and went three innings allowing only two hits and a run. Kierpa (2-0) came in relief and got credit for the win finishing out the final four innings, scattering three hits and striking out one.

Mast had a 3-for-4 game while Whitaker rounded out the multi-hit Scots going 2-for-3. Gibbins had the lone RBI on the day for the guests.

Kelsey Swaim (2-1) got the hard loss going the complete game. Swaim allowed eight hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out eight in the contest.

Allyson Loy was the only Greensboro athlete with a multi-hit game going 2-for-3. Hanna Stackhouse had the lone RBI for the hosts in the game.

GAME TWO: Greensboro 4, Covenant 0

The Pride used a three-run fourth inning to push past Covenant in game two.

Mast led the Scots offense going 2-for-3.

Carsyn Stone got the start lasting three innings giving up three hits and one unearned run. Lulu Klecan (1-1) was credited with the loss lasting only an inning but gave up three runs on four hits. Kierpa finished out the game going the final two innings allowing only a couple hits and striking out one.

Cassie Collins hit a sacrifice fly to give the Pride a 1-0 lead in the home half of the third.
