Baseball Falters At Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Covenant baseball team fell to Sewanee 12-7 on the campus of the University of the South on Tuesday afternoon at Montgomery Field.

Covenant (8-7) jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs in the first on a CJ Edmond single and a wild pitch.

The Scots continued to add on to the lead in the top of the second with a Tyler Moore single through the left side to score Brooks DuBose and take a 3-0 lead.

Sewanee (8-5) cut the lead to one in the bottom half of the third thanks to an error and a wild pitch. The Scots responded stretching the lead to 6-3 in the top of the fourth with a throwing error, scoring DuBose and an Alex Gonzalez double to left.

The Tigers exploded for a four-run fifth inning taking a 7-6 lead. The Scots were able to tie things up at seven in the top half of the sixth.

Errors proved costly for Covenant allowing two Tiger runs in the sixth to take a 9-7 lead. Sewanee added on two more in the bottom of the eighth to take the final 12-7.

Ken Burke led Covenant with a 2-for-3 day. Moore was the only other Scot with multiple hits going 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI.

Tristen Green got the start on the mound and lasted two innings only allowing one hit and four runs. Jonah Carignan (0-1) got the loss allowing two runs on one hit and two walks.

Carter Huffman paced the Tiger offense going 3-for-5 with five RBI on the day. Riley Brandvold had a 3-for-4 day with an RBI. Trey Akins and Josh Roberts rounded out the multi-hit athletes with two each.

Nick Ewing (1-0) got credit for the win going 3.1 innings allowing only three hits and one run while striking out four.
