LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant women's soccer team converted on scoring chances twice in the final 15 minutes of second half to defeat LaGrange, 2-0, on Saturday night in USA South action at Panther Field.
The shutout was the fourth of the year for Covenant (4-4-2, 2-0-1 USA South) as all four of the Lady Scots' wins this year have come without allowing an opponent to score.
For a second straight match, Covenant needed some late second half offense to produce a positive result. The Lady Scots scored twice within a span of less than two minutes to pull away for the win.
Covenant setup the game-winning score in the 76th minute. Elsa Woody's penalty kick chance was saved by LaGrange keeper Emma Smith and Kyra Duble's second-chance effort was also saved by Smith. However, Covenant maintained possession and Addy Cronan's cross into the box found the head of Anna Robertson, who headed it in for the go-ahead score.
The goal was Robertson's second of the week and fourth of the year.
The Lady Scots added an insurance goal less than two minutes later. In the 78th minute, Tori Deen found the back of the net, assisted by Sophia Andre, to give Covenant a 2-0 lead. The score was Deen's firsts collegiate score.
Covenant had a season-high 30 shots, including six attempts from Robertson. The Lady Scots' defense held LaGrange (6-7, 0-3 USA South) to just seven shots, while keeper Lucy Sandhoff picked up the shutout with three saves. Smith made 10 saves in the match.
Covenant took 15 shots in the opening half, including five on target, but came up empty each time. Kailey Burrell had all three of her shots, all on goal, come in the first half as Covenant put the pressure on the LaGrange defense and Smith.
