No. 2 Colorado College Sweeps Volleyball

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Facing the No. 2-ranked Colorado College squad for a second time in as many days, the Covenant volleyball team fell in three sets to the host Tigers in the finale of the Pikes Peak Challenge at Reid Arena. Set scores were 25-8, 25-10, 25-21 in favor of the Tigers.

Colorado College remains unbeaten on the year at 11-0 and Covenant drops to 2-8.

After taking a set off the Tigers on Friday, Covenant found tough sledding on Saturday. Colorado College stormed to big wins in the first two sets before holding off the Scots in the third set.

In the third, Covenant took a 5-4 lead on a Riley Howe kill after Colorado College had scored the set's first three points. The teams traded points for much of the frame, but Covenant took a 17-15 edge thanks to kills from Howe and Alexa Spurling. However, the host Tigers scored seven straight points to grab a 22-17 edge and would keep Covenant at a distance the rest of the way to earn a 25-21 set win and the match victory.

Spurling had six kills to lead the Scots, while three players (Lindsey Stephens, Allie Jakes, and Howe) had four apiece. Sophie Puertas added 20 assists and Emily Moore led the defense with her 10 digs. Josita Marshall also tallied seven digs in the loss.

Colorado College hit .416 as a team with 52 kills in the win. Haley Harris had 15 kills and 14 digs to lead the way for the Tigers. Myca Steffey-Bean also had 15 kills and Lizzy Counts accounted for 34 assists and three aces.
