Women's Hoops Cruises to Sixth Straight Win

MACON, Ga. -- The Covenant women's basketball team won its sixth straight contest and moved over the .500 mark overall after an 86-58 victory at Wesleyan on Friday night.

Covenant (12-11, 7-6 USA South) can clinch a winning regular season for the first time since 2012-13 with a victory at Agnes Scott on Saturday.

Kaley Hallmark led three players in double figures with her 22 points, including five 3-pointers, to go along with six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Emma Grimes knocked down six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points and six assists, while Taylor Robinson came off the bench to score 12 points.

Covenant shot an even 50 percent (32-of-64) on the night with a season-high tying 14 3-pointers.

The Scots took control early with a dominating effort in the first as Covenant outscored Wesleyan 20-5. Grimes hit two 3-pointers in the period and Covenant made 8-of-17 from the floor, but it was the defense that stood tall. Wesleyan was just 2-of-16 from the field and turned the ball over seven times in the first 10 minutes of action.

Wesleyan got within 10 at halftime, but Covenant's lead never went below double digits the rest of the night. The largest margin of the night came with the final score after Clara Wolfe hit two free throws less than 30 seconds remaining in the fourth.

Hannah Monday added nine points and eight rebounds for the Scots and Bekah Walter had seven points and three assists. Joanna Smith scored just six points, but dished out six assists and grabbed seven rebounds. Jessica Bell chipped in five points and six rebounds.

Wesleyan (4-17, 0-13 USA South) was led by TK Blount's 13 points and Taylor Thigpen's 12. Taylor Hauser had eight rebounds for the host Wolves. Wesleyan shot 33.3 percent (21-of-63) for the game and committed 23 turnovers.
