FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Following another strong week, Covenant men's soccer freshman Austin Berry has been named the USA South Rookie of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 21, announced the league on Monday.
It is the first career weekly honor for Berry and he is the second Covenant player to earn a weekly accolade from the USA South this year, joining Paul Lemay (Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17).
A freshman from Signal Mountain, Tenn., Berry scored twice and had an assist, all coming in a win over LaGrange last Wednesday, to help the Scots to a 2-0 record on the week. Berry notched his first collegiate two-goal match, and also had an assist, in Covenant's 3-0 win over LaGrange last Wednesday. Berry scored twice in a span of eight minutes in the second half and assisted on Keegan Weekley's goal between that to aid in the victory. Berry's play also helped the Scots to a 1-0 win over William Peace on Saturday.
For the year, Berry has tallied four goals and two assists. Over the last three matches, the freshman has scored three times and been a part of four of Covenant's six goals.
Covenant (11-5-1, 8-2-1 USA South) will conclude the regular season on Friday with a home match against Huntingdon. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and Senior Day activities will take place before the contest.
