LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Matt Morefield's goal in the 70th minute of play was enough to lift the Covenant men's soccer team to its first win of the year as the Scots defeated visiting Sewanee, 1-0, on Wednesday night at Scotland Yard.

The win is the second in the last three years for Covenant (1-2) over Sewanee. The visiting Tigers drop to 1-2 overall on the year.

After a sluggish start to the contest that saw Sewanee take five shots before Covenant's first, the Scots settled down and maintained possession throughout the rest of the first half and into the second. But it wasn't until the 70th minute that Covenant would capitalize. 

Josh Brower's corner kick was deflected around by several players inside the 18-yard box before finding the feet of Morefield, who drove it home past the dive of Sewanee keeper Will Merriman for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Morefield's first of the year and second of his career.

Over the final 20 minutes, Covenant's defense was strong as the Tigers managed just one shot in that stretch. Jonathan Crossman made three saves on the night to pick up the victory at the net.

Covenant held a 21-7 shot advantage in the contest, including 11-1 in the second half alone. Jesse Riggs and Brower had four shots apiece. 

Merriman tallied four saves at the net for Sewanee.
