Price, Smith Double-Doubles Lead Scots over Wesleyan

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Rachel Price and Joanna Smith each recorded double-doubles and the Covenant women's basketball team routed USA South foe Wesleyan 75-51 on Friday night at Barnes PE Center.

Price had a career-high 15 points to go along with 11 rebounds and two blocks, while Smith posted 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to help Covenant (9-11, 3-7 USA South) snap a three-game losing streak. Jessica Bell scored 10 points with seven rebounds and Aleigha Williams tallied nine points and four boards.

As a team, Covenant shot 43.7 percent (31-of-71) from the field and made 13-of-17 from the free throw line.

The Scots took a commanding lead early by scoring the first 13 points of the contest. A Smith layup with 5:24 left in the first capped the early run before Wesleyan finally scored with 4:59 left in the period. Covenant shot 48 percent in the quarter and took a 28-5 lead into the second.

The lead for Covenant would grow in the second quarter and reached 26 points after two Margo Koby free throws and a Smith layup in the final minute of the period. The Scots led 42-16 at the half.

Covenant's lead reached its peak midway through the third quarter when Smith converted a layup to make it 48-18 with 6:21 remaining. The Scots would lead by double digits the rest of the way.

Bekah Walter had nine points off the bench and Koby added a season-high eight points and three rebounds for Covenant. Kaley Hallmark posted six points and three rebounds.

Wesleyan (2-17, 0-10 USA South) was led by Justice Thigpen's 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Taylor Thigpen and Breyonna Raymond had 10 points apiece for the Wolves, who shot 31.5 percent (17-of-54) from the field.

UP NEXT

Covenant will host Agnes Scott for Senior Day on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m., but Senior Day activities will begin at 3:45 p.m.
