LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant baseball team opened up the USA South portion of its schedule on Friday evening with a 6-3 loss at LaGrange at Cleaveland Field in LaGrange.

The Scots have dropped two straight games and fall to 5-5 on the year and 0-1 in league play. LaGrange goes to 10-1 overall.

It was a four-run sixth inning that propelled LaGrange to the win. Covenant took a 3-2 lead with a three-run fifth inning after LaGrange struck for two runs in its half of the fourth. Luke Harvey and Devin Cerrato had consecutive RBI singles to tie the score at 2-2. Caleb Bloye followed and reached on a fielder's choice that enabled Trenton Nobles to score from third and give the Scots a 3-2 lead.

LaGrange's bats came alive in the sixth as the Panthers scored four runs on three hits to grab a 6-3 lead. James Poropatic had an RBI triple to tie the game and Covenant committed an error and then had a wild pitch and a passed ball that allowed the Panthers to score three more runs.

Harvey and Forrest Hunter had two hits apiece for the Scots as Covenant totaled nine hits in the contest. Matt Reitz (2-2) got the start and went six innings allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts.

LaGrange's Austin Brown (1-0) got the win in relief as he tossed the final four innings. Tavin Thompson and Blane Swift had two hits each, while Poropatic led the way with three hits and three RBIs.

UP NEXT

Covenant and LaGrange will conclude their three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
