Lady Scots Cruise Past Berea, 3-0

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant volleyball team hit a season-best .324 and never trailed as the Lady Scots cruised past USA South foe Berea 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-10) on Wednesday night inside Barnes PE Center.

Covenant (11-7, 6-0 USA South) remains unbeaten in USA South play and sits atop the West Division standings. The Lady Scots have won eight of the last nine matches overall.

The match only saw two ties, and both came in the first set. Covenant grabbed a 3-2 lead on a Hannah Harris kill and would never trail the rest of the match. The Lady Scots hit .387 in the opening game with 15 kills and used a 15-2 run to break open a close first set to win 25-10.

In the second, Covenant scored the first six points, including two kills from Harris and another from Alexa Spurling followed by an ace from Schuyler Moore. The Lady Scots would not let the visiting Mountaineers get closer than three points the rest of the set and maintained a lead throughout before scoring the final four points, capped by a Sophie Puertas ace, to win 25-16.

It was more of the same in the third set. A quick lead as Covenant scored the first four points before a strong finish capped the match victory. The Lady Scots again topped the .300-plateau in hitting percentage in the set collecting eight kills and a .300 percentage.

Covenant had a 32-16 edge in total kills and limited Berea to -.025 for the match. It is the third straight match that an opponent has recorded a negative hitting percentage. The Lady Scots also out-dug Berea 42-29 and produced four team blocks.

Ginny Moore tallied seven kills, 10 digs and four aces, while Harris had six kills and a block assist. Schuyler Moore registered 20 assists, six digs, four aces and three kills with a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage. Haley Taylor added five kills and Spurling had four kills and four total blocks. Hannah Stewart tallied 10 digs and four assists.

Berea (3-12, 1-4 USA South) got six kills from Isis Hill and 14 assists from Alexandra Wilkins. Kristin Barnes totaled six digs in the loss.
