LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Visiting Maryville scored two second half goals and came away with a 2-0 victory over the Covenant women's soccer team in USA South action on Thursday night at Scotland Yard.

The loss snaps a four-match winning streak for Covenant (9-6, 4-2 USA South). Maryville (12-2-2, 5-0-1 USA South) remains unbeaten in conference play heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

Covenant had limited opportunities to score throughout the match against one of the top defensive teams in the USA South. The Lady Scots were outshot 18-9 on the night, but put six of those shots on target. Five of Covenant's six shots on goal came in the second half as the Lady Scots tried to mount a comeback. One of the best chances came in the 67th minute, but Addy Cronan's attempt was cleared away near the goal line by a Maryville defender. 

After a scoreless first half, Maryville struck first in the 54th minute. Lexi Hill worked her way into the 18-yard box and got a shot off that hit the crossbar before bouncing straight down and into the back of the net for the goal. The score was Hill's fifth of the year and proved to be the game-winner.

Maryville would tack on an insurance goal in the 64th minute when Shannon Reagan put away a penalty kick for a 2-0 lead.

Covenant keeper Rachel Lemay made nine saves on the night, while her counterpart Abbey Coleman made five. Cronan led Covenant with three shot attempts and Lizzy Hightower took two. 

UP NEXT

Covenant will host Wesleyan on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Scotland Yard. Senior Day activities will take place before the match as the five Covenant seniors will be honored.
