Hightower's Golden Goal Caps Comeback Win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Lizzy Hightower scored the game-winner in the 106th minute to cap a 2-1 comeback victory for the Covenant women's soccer team over Berry in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Scotland Yard.

Covenant (7-5) won for the first time over Berry since 2012 and the Lady Scots have won two straight overall.

Berry controlled the match for much of the night. The visiting Vikings held a 15-7 shot advantage, but Covenant didn't back down and capitalized on chances late. Covenant trailed 1-0 late in the second half, but a Rachel Lemay free kick soared into the 18-yard box before being headed by Berry defender Micahala Bibbins and into the net for an own goal to tie the score at 1-1.

There was only one shot taken combined between the two overtime sessions and it was Hightower's game winner. The sophomore gathered the ball at the top of the box before working around a Berry defender and getting her shot into the right-side of the net past keeper Jackie McGivney for the winner. The goal was Hightower's third of the year.

Berry (2-7-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Samantha Schoppy collected a deflected ball inside the box and knocked it past Lemay and into the net giving the Vikings a 1-0 edge. The goal was Schoppy's first of the year.

Covenant had limited chances in both halves, taking just three shots in each against a stingy Berry defense. Grace Bartelt and Molly Kate McClearn had looks late in the first half, but McGivney made saves on both. Late in the second half, Kyra Duble got off an attempt on target but McGivney came up with the save again.

Lemay, making a return to the field after sitting out three matches due to injury, made seven saves on the night. McGivney made three saves at the net for Berry.

Duble and Hightower took two shots apiece for the Lady Scots. Schoppy led Berry, and all players, with four attempts.
