MACON, Ga. -- The Covenant women's basketball team used a season-best shooting performance to knock off USA South foe Wesleyan, 78-62, on Friday night at Porter Gymnasium.

Covenant (7-8, 1-4 USA South) shot 56.4 percent (31-of-55) from the field in the victory that snapped a four-game losing streak. It marked the second time this year that the Scots have shot at least 56 percent from the floor.

Emma Grimes led four Scots in double figure scoring with 15 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Aleigha Williams had 13 points, while Joanna Smith had 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Rachel Price also added 11 points.

Covenant got off to a hot start as the Scots scored on each of their first four possessions, capped by a Smith layup, to go ahead 8-2. Covenant connected on 66.7 percent from the floor in the period and took its largest lead of the quarter at 23-11 on a Price layup with under a minute to go.

The Scots extended the lead to 19 in the second quarter as Clara Dirkse converted a layup after a Margo Koby steal with 5:57 left in the period. A Grimes 3-pointer in the final seconds of the quarter gave Covenant a 43-27 edge heading into halftime.

In the final two quarters, Covenant would expand the lead to 24 on two occasions and cruise to the victory. The Scots outscored Wesleyan in three of the four quarters on the night.

Covenant saw 12 of its 14 players score in the contest. Kaley Hallmark had seven points and three rebounds and Jessica Bell contributed six points off the bench. Morgan Douglass and Ellen Ortlip each grabbed five rebounds to help Covenant to a 43-31 rebounding advantage.
