RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Covenant volleyball team split a pair of USA South matches on Friday at Weatherspon Gym in Raleigh. The Lady Scots fell to host Meredith 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) in the day's first match before defeating Ferrum 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-15) in the second match.

MATCH ONE: Meredith 3, Covenant 0

Morgan Opgenorth had a season-high 11 kills, but Meredith withstood the Lady Scots and pulled off a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) sweep of Covenant in the day's first match.

The match was evenly played as it featured 25 ties and 11 lead changes and Meredith held a 37-36 edge in total kills. Covenant out-dug Meredith 55-52, but the host Avenging Angels out-blocked the Lady Scots 7-0 on the afternoon.

The first set saw 13 ties and three lead changes, but Meredith broke away from an 18-18 tie by scoring seven of the final 10 points of the set for the victory. In the second set, Covenant held a 16-13 lead after a service ace from Emily Moore before Meredith went on a 7-2 run to take a 20-18 lead, one they would not relinquish.

Covenant also held an early lead in the third set as a kill from Opgenorth gave the Lady Scots a 10-5 advantage. Like in the previous two sets, Meredith would have the final answer as the hosts went on an 11-4 scoring spurt midway through the set to take the lead for good.

Schuyler Moore had 30 assists and 12 digs, while Allie Jakes had six kills and a hitting percentage of .400. Ginny Moore and Hannah Harris had five kills apiece, with Moore collecting eight digs. Emily Moore added 12 digs and Hannah Stewart 11.

Elizabeth Pattison led Meredith (13-2, 5-0 USA South) with 13 kills and Karlie Long added 10 in the victory. Hannah Blaylock tallied 32 assists and 13 digs, while Keegan Lynch had a match-high 18 digs.

MATCH TWO: Covenant 3, Ferrum 0

Covenant received a career-best 14 kills from Hannah Harris and cruised past Ferrum 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-15) to conclude Friday at Weatherspoon Gym.

Harris piled up 14 kills with a hitting percentage of .444 to go along with two solo blocks and three digs in the victory. Jakes added six kills and four assisted blocks, while Schuyler Moore had 19 assists and nine digs. Jessica Seehorn totaled three kills and eight assists and Haley Taylor chipped in four kills. Stewart and Mariah Corney had eight and six digs, respectively, as all 13 available players saw action for Covenant.

Covenant (7-9, 4-2 USA South) scored the first six points of the opening set and would lead throughout to take a 25-20 win. Jakes, Seehorn and Harris all had kills during the opening run and a kill from Chloe Storm finished off the set.

The second set was back-and-forth through the early portion before Covenant stormed ahead. The Lady Scots went on a 16-4 scoring run, capped by a combined block from Jakes and Schuyler Moore, to break the set wide open and take a 22-9 lead.

In the third set, Covenant again took command early by scoring the first seven points, highlighted by three kills from Harris, to go ahead 7-0. The Lady Scots would never trail in the set and finished it off by scoring eight of the final nine points.
