MACON, Ga. -- Riley Battenfield scored in the 88th minute of regulation to lift the Covenant women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Wesleyan in USA South action on Friday evening.

The win is Covenant's seventh in the last eight matches and moves the Lady Scots to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the USA South. Wesleyan drops to 3-5 on the year and 1-5 in the conference.

Battenfield's goal came in the final minutes and broke a 1-1 tie. Coming off a corner kick, the ball bounced around inside the box before Battenfield cleaned it up and found the back of the net. Summer Bader was credited with an assist. The goal was the first of the season and the first of Battenfield's collegiate career.

In the first half, Covenant gained a 1-0 lead on Callie Bader's first goal of the season, assisted by Summer Bader. The goal was also Callie Bader's first career score. The Lady Scots held that lead into the second before Wesleyan's Kali Havens knotted the score with her first goal of the year.

But Covenant maintained control throughout holding a 25-2 shot advantage and then took advantage late in the second period on Battenfield's goal.

Rachel Lemay and Jordan Brett combined for one save on the night. Wesleyan's Carlee Dykes made eight saves.

Covenant will travel to Decatur, Ga., on Saturday to take on USA South foe Agnes Scott. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
